Making north-east Hastings a great place to live

Screen Shot 2018-10-01 at 09.53.01The first newsletter from the resident led partnership looking to make north east Hastings a better place to live has been published.

In 2012 an organisation called Local Trust received £220 million from the Big Lottery Fund.

With that money 150 ‘Big Local’ areas were created in the country and each one was given £1 million to make their area a better place to live.

North-East Hastings was one of those Big Local areas that includes Down Farm, Red Lake, Broomgrove, Halton, Farley Bank and areas in between. Following extensive consultation with residents of the area a Resident-Led Partnership started work. Last week the first Big Local North-East Hastings newsletters was published telling local people about plans for how the money is going to be used to make the area ‘a great place to live’.

Some of the things that have happened so far include support for four community centres: Broomgrove, The Bridge, Down Farm and Ore Centre. There has been help to fund the feasibility study for a replacement for Sandown School Swimming Pool and support for Heart of Hastings and Ore Community Land Trust.

Funding has been provided for three successful fun days, Christmas parties for youngsters and a community panto called ‘CindORElla’.

There have been coach outings to places of interest and this year the group has commissioned Hastings Works to provide a service to enable older residents to acquire IT skills to reduce isolation and enable them to access online services.
